SAPPER version 8.0x.
Partnering with BRE Global Accreditation Schemes for Energy Assessors
Sapper training for BRE accreditation

BRE approved SAP 2005 calculation software for worksheet 9.81 (updated to incorporate the April 2008 amendments) for Building Regulations Part ADL1A and ADL1B, Northern Ireland Technical Booklet F1 August 2006, and Scottish Technical Handbook 2007, Domestic, Section 6. For England and Wales the software will generate an Energy Performance Certificate if the user is a member of BRE Global Accreditation Scheme.

In Scotland the EPC (including Energy Report if required) can be produced. Membership of a Protocol Organisation is optional.

Sapper version 8 will now print a Predicted Energy Assessment (PEA) for new dwellings which are marketed prior to completion. (England and Wales only)

Sapper version 8 incorporates Dewpoint U-value and condensation risk calculator, so there is no need to purchase any other software.

Sapper version 8 is the ideal design tool for showing compliance with Building Regulations ADL1A, Northern Ireland Technical Booklet F1 August 2006, and Scottish Technical Handbook 2007 Domestic Section 6. It checks compliance by comparing the Dwelling Carbon Emission Rate with the Target Emission Rate derived from a notional dwelling of the same size and shape.
Sapper version 8 also includes a facility to check compliance for over-glazed house extensions. It will test for the Fabric Standards, Comparative Heat Loss method and the total dwelling emissions methods as required by ADL1B and in Scotland it will show compliance with Technical Standards section 6.2.9 U-values method and the Compensatory approach. For over-glazed extensions, Sapper version 8 will checks compliance by showing that the carbon emissions from the house plus the extension are no greater than the emissions from the existing house plus a notional extension. Sapper calculates the notional extension from the extension information entered.
For over-glazed extensions it is sometimes required to make improvements to the existing house to reduce the carbon emissions, such as improving the heating boiler or adding extra insulation.

So what's new? Apart from the generation of EPC and several minor changes, the latest amendments include facilty to enter details for :

The Standard Assessment Procedure (SAP 2005 version 9.81) is the Government's standard procedure for assessing home energy efficiency. The SAP is intended to give householders, architects, builders etc. a measure of the overall efficiency of a home in a way that is simple and easy to understand.

The SAP rating is based on the energy costs associated with space heating, water heating, ventilation and lighting, less cost savings from energy generation technologies. It is adjusted for floor area so that it is essentially independent of dwelling size for a given built form. The Environmental Impact Rating is expressed on a scale of 1 - 100, the higher the better.

Having calculated the DER and TER, if the dwelling emissions are too high, Sapper version 7 now includes a diagnosis tool to give help and guidance on how to achieve compliance. This makes the program an invaluable design tool.

There are five criteria to demonstrate compliance with the building regulations.

The calculation depends on a number of factors including: SAPPER version 8.0x is an easy-to-use calculator which makes a daunting task easy.

It is an invaluable design tool for any architect who wants to make sure that the design is energy efficient and that it complies with the Building Regulations. Building Control Officers like the ease of recording the data and checking the U-values.
